Our Story

From Pioneering Ranch to Premier Resort

Running Y began in 1866, when homesteader Wendolin Nus built a modest cabin and rock wall on this land by Upper Klamath Lake.

Over the next century, stewardship passed through families—the Fjocks, Crowleys, McCornacks, and Gearys—who transformed marshland into thriving ranchlands with innovative irrigation and cattle operations. In 1966, California rancher Ruth Teasdale acquired 8,000 acres, and in 1994, the property was purchased and began plans for a destination resort. By 1996, construction was underway, and Arnold Palmer himself broke ground on the signature golf course in 1998.

Spanning 3,600 acres of ranch, forest, and wetlands on the shores of Upper Klamath Lake, Running Y blends historic heritage with modern hospitality. We’re dedicated to preserving the land’s natural beauty—home to migratory birds, native wildlife, and thriving wetlands—while offering guests exceptional experiences like golf, spa, dining, and outdoor recreation.

At Running Y, every guest becomes part of our story. A legacy that began with rugged ranching now unfolds into rejuvenating outdoor retreats, peaceful family getaways, and unforgettable events. Our mission is simple: to offer a welcoming sanctuary where the region’s scenic richness and resort comfort come together—so every stay feels like coming home.
